All About the Uk’s Top 6 Airports

Isabelle Jackson

Travelling by plane comes with more stress than most other forms of transport. With tight time schedules and strict procedures you need to follow once you arrive at the airport, it is more complicated than just hopping into your car and trundling up and down the motorway. With that being said, it can also be extremely exciting.

Unless you’re travelling strictly for business, the chances are you are looking forward to spending some time resting and relaxing in a new environment. Your destination will make the stress of going by plane well worth it, and even if you are not a fan of air travel there are all kinds of different services available at airports in the UK to make your experience there a more pleasant one.

Most of the top airports in the UK will offer similar services, but there will still be plenty of variation on offer depending on which airport you’re using. For people travelling on a budget there are going to be facilities that are free to use, but for those travelling in a little more luxury there are optional extras that you can add to create a better airport experience.

You can fly from any of the airports in the UK, but some don’t serve particular routes, meaning your choice may be limited. Additionally, there are airports placed strategically all over the country so you shouldn’t have to travel too far to get to one unless you need to for preference or other reasons.

Manchester Airport

Located on the outskirts of Manchester in the North, Manchester Airport is one of the UK’s busiest airports which serves more than 6 million passengers every year. To help all these people have the best experience possible, Manchester Airport has a huge variety of shops ranging from convenience stores, to clothing stores, to luxury brand shops. There is also a good range of food outlets including fast food favourites and more high-end dining.

Liverpool Airport

A great airport choice if you’re in the north or the Midlands, Liverpool Airport has everything you need to have a smooth and comfortable airport experience. It serves plenty of international destinations, including top European holiday destinations and places further afield. Airport parking in Liverpool is easy and convenient and it also has excellent connections for people arriving by public transport.

Glasgow Airport

Located in Scotland, Glasgow Airport serves a whopping 9 million visitors each year. 30 airlines operate out of Glasgow, landing at more than 100 destinations including internal flights and long haul international flights. Parking in Glasgow Airport is simple and there are valet parking and park and ride services available for those arriving by car. Glasgow Airport has everything you need pre-flight, including food outlets, shops and a duty-free.

London Heathrow

Out of London’s six airports, Heathrow is the busiest. This airport offers one of the best experiences in the UK and more than an astonishing 80 million people each year arrive and depart on its runways. Heathrow is known for its range of retail outlets so if you love to do a bit of airport shopping then this is the place for you. There are also food and drink outlets, including traditional pubs and restaurants, fast food, and even cocktail bars on offer. Heathrow is also home to some of the best private airport lounges in the country, giving first class service.

East Midlands Airport

As you can guess from the name, this airport is located in the East Midlands. Its central location makes it ideal to serve travellers from the north and south of the country, as well as travellers from Wales. It is a relatively small airport, serving about 4 million passengers each year and travelling to more than 90 global destinations. Despite its smaller size, it still manages to pack in a really decent range of shops and restaurants for your travelling comfort and convenience.

London Gatwick Airport

This is a truly huge airport and is one of the busiest in the UK, serving over 45 million passengers and travelling to and from over 230 destinations all over the world. You will love this one if you’re travelling with kids as there are plenty of family friendly attractions to keep them entertained at Gatwick Airport. There are also a wide range of shops, food outlets and even a generous duty-free. If you and your kids love watching the planes take off and land then there are a few viewing areas you will want to check out while you’re waiting for your call to board your flight.
