Clever Ways to Use a Blanket Box

Isabelle Jackson

Blanket boxes are traditionally used to store blankets, and this is why they’re often kept at the foot of the bed. However, if you don’t have spare blankets and pillows, it doesn’t mean you can’t add a blanket box to your house. Blanket boxes can be used for several other purposes; they’re useful pieces of furniture that you can place all around the home. This article looks at some alternative ways to use a blanket box.

Storage for more than blankets

You could use your blanket box to store out-of-season clothing, small suitcases, or anything you don’t want out on show in your bedroom. They’re great for people who love to stash away extra items in their bedroom that can look messy and unkempt.

Seating

Many blanket boxes also double as seating. They can provide the perfect ledge for looking outside when positioned under a window. The great thing about a blanket box over installing permanent window seating is they can easily be moved to a different location or taken with you if you plan on moving house. Long blanket boxes make ideal seats; choose a box with some padding or one that’s been upholstered. Also, opting for a good-quality blanket box that won’t break when used as seating is better.

Shoe bench and storage

If you’re constantly finding shoes lying around the house, you might want somewhere to hide them away from sight. A blanket box can also be used as shoe storage. Place it near a wall in your hallway and put all the shoes inside. This way, you can keep your hall from looking cluttered. Not only is it great for storing shoes, but it also provides a handy place to sit when you need to put your footwear on. This is especially useful for households with children who often struggle to put their shoes on without sitting down.

Toy storage

Blanket boxes are also useful for storing toys; you can fit many different toys in the box and keep them safe and out of sight. People with children love them to enjoy their toys, but when it comes to hosting dinner or tidying up, the toys are better hidden out of the way. A blanket box that children can access themselves is a great solution; they can learn the importance of tidying up after themselves, and the toys won’t become lost or broken. In addition to this, blanket boxes provide more seating for children in your home.

Storage for dog toys and treats

If you have a dog, you’ll understand that they can accumulate many different toys and treats. A blanket box will keep all of these toys safe away from your dog when you’re not home to supervise them. When you want to reward your dog with a toy or treat, you can simply open the box and let them pick their own. Choose a wooden blanket box that can easily be cleaned if you’re keeping dog toys inside.

Footstool

Adding a blanket box to your living room furniture can help provide a comfortable place for you to rest your feet at the end of the day. You can also utilise the footstool space to store items you might not want out on show in your living room. For example, you could store spare chargers, your TV remote and other electronic items. This way, you won’t lose these things, and you’ll be able to find them easily when you come to use them next.

Sideboard

Some wooden blanket boxes make great sideboards for little ones to store their items and gain some independence. A sideboard full of your children's things, where they can put their drink or toys on top and access their coat, shoes and other items, can also make your life easier. Giving them their own space to store things can be a good idea to promote independence.

Blanket boxes are great for all sorts of things; they can double up as storage for various items and also seating in different rooms. When choosing a blanket box, consider the colour and use it before purchasing. Fabric blanket boxes are best for soft items and seating. Wooden or wipeable boxes are better for things that might get messy and need cleaning, such as shoes.
